Elixa Probiotics Gut Series, Part 2

Probiotics are an important part of any gut health restoration and recovery program. Elixa is a superb product consisting of lacto and bifido strains for maximum delivery.

Karl Seddon of Elixa has been busy creating a really good video series on gut health. In case you missed part 1, here it is.

And this is episode 2. I apologize for not being able to play the video in this window, you’ll have to visit his site to watch.  I really, really recommend you all watch these. Karl has done his homework and it’s not a hard sell for Elixa. Whether you intend to try his probiotics (and soon prebiotics!) or not, you’ll learn a lot from this video series. 12 minutes, great primer if you have no idea about the basics of gut health. And if you’ve been around awhile, watch anyway…he really gets into the meat of all this, discussing the problems with keto diets and lack of fiber.  Good job, Karl!

    ‘Buggy’ looks like quite a friendly microbe; so I say the name fits 🙂

      The graphics really are awesome in your videos, I can’t imagine what all goes into making those videos, great job! I really do feel good about helping you publicize Elixa. I’ve never really been a huge proponent of probiotics, and I never jumped on the Prescript Assist and Soil Based Organism craze like everyone else, I always thought that delivery, CFUs, colonization, and packaging were being overlooked, as well as not putting all your eggs in one basket hoping the SBOs were enough. If you could gather my words from all over the internet, you’d see that I have been recommending nothing but Bifido and Lacto species as probiotics, especially L. plantarum. If I ever needed surgery or antibiotics for any reason, I will definitely be getting a jar of Elixa. Anybody with an AI disease should try Elixa if they want some quality Lacto/Bifido to try. I’m afraid that most people who have tried L. plantarum as a cure for something over the last couple years may have been using a totally insufficient amount/type/delivery.

      Plus, it helps, that all of the species in the V3 blend are known eaters of RS! If you Google “Resistant starch and L. plantarum” or “bifido” you’ll see this has been the discussion for many years. If you ever wanted to write up a blog post about the species in your blend, etc. I’d be glad to post it here, or maybe you don’t want the cat out of the bag, lol.

        Means a lot coming from the author of VegPharm 🙂 (and now PotatoHack!).
        It does indeed take a lot of time but learning all the different software involved is fun and very cathartic once I finally have all the animation, video, and audio synced up and click ‘Export’, hehe.

        P.S.
        Yes, I will do a clinical studies highlight for all the species in the current blend (v3) because there were some quite specific considerations for the Lactobacillus that I kept in and the ones that I kept out. And it wasn’t related to the D-Lactate output. I’ll put it into a video, Dr. Greger style.

    Another great video. I can not wait for the one on types of FODMAPS and which ones are the good ones and the bad ones. This is the easiest way to share this knowledge with someone.
    Tim, thank you for posting. This new site is beautiful and very user friendly. If you can access the code or are able to copy and paste code into the blog, let me know and I will tell you how to make the videos play into the page (I am a web designer).

      Yes the next video will be diving into some depth on how different types of fiber can influence the different species of microbe in the gut – and how it is possible to create a shift (not just an absolute increase in populations) in your microbiota.

    Wow! Really? Karl…any advice? I just now visited the website, clicked on “Add to Cart” and then “Check out with Pay Pal” and it all seemed to work flawlessly. The currency and everything was correct. Is it PayPal causing the issues, maybe?

    Karl has set up a really good distribution network for US sales, and I know in the age of Amazon everyone expects extremely smooth transitions. I’ve had a PayPal account for 6 or 7 years, every now and then we hit a glitch, but not often. It sure is a lot better than the old way of sending every vendor your CC info.

    Dear Tim, do you recommend a product based on three videos and a web page plus some chat with the producer? Anywhere I look there’s no evidence about the manufacturing place, nothing about the capsule’s composition. Nothing. Empty words. No proof. Yes, the number is good. But what’s inside the capsule? I can buy an encapsulating machine and make stuff at home – with potato starch in it only, at best.

      Hi, Vera – Thanks for the comment. I hope you don’t mind a rather lengthy reply, lol.

      I have been watching silently as Karl Seddon developed Elixa. My first exposure to it was through Free The Animal blog. Now, I know some of you do not like Richard Nikoley’s “style,” but he writes about cutting-edge stuff with regards to health, gut health, diet, etc. If you read through the posts at FTA and the comments, you’ll see a who’s who of blog commenters that we have all come to rely on to ask the hard questions and dig into the meat of the blog post, so to speak. The FTA blog post from April 2015, “Gut Bugs, Probiotics, Prebiotics…And how our microbes make us who we are,” was, I believe, the first I’d heard of Elixa. This blog post did not get a whole lot of attention, just 50 comments, but some really good ones. ie.:

      “I wanted to give feedback after using Elixa for 12 days. I have ulcerative proctitis which is a mild inflammatory bowl disease. My symptoms improved dramatically. The day after I stopped taking the probiotics the symptoms returned. Based on this short experiment it definitely helped me but it seems I need a continuous supply.”

      Keep in mind, back in early 2015, Richard and I had been discussing probiotics, ad nauseam, for 3 or 4 solid years. I, and about everyone, was tired of the same old drivel about how one blend was better than the rest. We watched “soil-based organisms” go in and out of favor. We heard about spore-formers, heat-killed, and rePOOPulating a gut. Fecal transplants then became all the rage. In the words of one researcher, “It’s the wild west out there,” in regards to probiotics.

      Then Richard wrote a follow-up post. Seems he and Karl had been communicating. It looked to me like Karl was getting serious about Elixa, and also recognizing what we had been saying for many years, PRE-biotics are just as important as PRObiotics. In FTA’s May 2015 post, “FODMAP Prebiotic Arms Dealing, Probiotic Mercenaries, and Uganda,” we learned a bit more about Karl and his methodology of developing Elixa. This post got 104 comments from some of my trusted group of commenters: Elliebelly, Allan Folz, GabKad, Sassyquatch, Ashwin Patel, Mycroft Jones, and Wilbur. In fact, many of the comments between Wilbur and Karl seem to have steered Elixa’s evolution:

      “I agree with your final musing regarding different FODMAPs potentially having differing effect in parallel with an Elixa course. I should add that I have not seen a strong correlation between consumption of potato starch (plus Elixa) equalling the temporary odd effects – but my earlier hypothesis may certainly explain things IF it were the case. I’ve heard a very limited number of people report this (infact, as I recall, the 3 or 4 within the comment sections of this site are the only incidences I’ve heard about in total). I’m always looking for feedback though, and considering various theories to explain all the data.”

      In June 2015, FTA posted “The New Science of Probiotics.” Further describing some of Elixa’s benefits over the previous probiotics we’d been researching for many years.

      A search of FTA shows a dozen or so posts over the last couple years concerning Elixa. July 2016’s “What People are Saying About Elixa” has some real nuggets of information.

      I think you will be hard-pressed to find a single comment that I left in any of the posts about Elixa on FTA. But, I had been included in several private emails between Richard, Karl, and others about the intricacies of probiotics, prebiotics, gut bacteria, etc. My thinking on probiotics gradually shifted, and I came to realize that the probiotic bacteria that does the most good are bifidobacteria and lactobacillus strains. I was recommending to people that they “mega-dose” probiotics that contained bifido and lacto strains. I don’t think the average probiotic has enough CFUs to make a difference, hence the need to take handfuls at a time. Along the way, it occurred to me that if I was to develop a probiotic, it would be exactly like Elixa. High dose lacto/bifido packaged in gut-resistant capsules.

      Recently, I heard rumors of a new product from Karl Seddon, a PREbiotic blend. It was then that I decided to ask Karl a lot of questions and decided I should start helping him get word out of his Version 3 Elixa Probiotics, his video series, and hopefully soon, his prebiotic fiber blend.

      As to your questions about manufacturing and composition…well, that’s life isn’t it? You pay your money and you take your chances. I have been around Karl and Elixa long enough to have developed a respect for the man and his products. I have no reason to think he is a shyster selling us sawdust. I like that he is not trying to get people “hooked” on his products, but offering them as a short course to address specific concerns. In fact, in an email exchange, I asked why he did not offer Elixa in a smaller dose designed for long-term use, and his reply was that he realized he could make more money doing that, but did not feel it was the best use of probiotics, which is why he was designing the prebiotic blend, for long term use and gut health…but I’m told there will soon be a new post at FTA explaining all this, so I’ll shut up now.

      Hope that helps. Bottom line: Elixa is the only probiotic I recommend. This is based on personal insight into the manufacturing process, blend, and strains used.
