Every day I see science and health article discussing probiotics and their effect on inflammation and the immune system.
Why gut bacteria are essential for a healthy immune system
Probiotics for respiratory illness could save millions
The only probiotic I recommend, and take myself, is Elixa. I took a couple rounds recently after a routine colonoscopy and had none of the gastric distress that often accompanies this procedure. I took a round before and after a vacation to Mexico to prevent Montezuma’s revenge (it worked!).
Elixa contains only those species of bacteria with a track record over a hundred years long. The tendency for probiotic manufacturers is to pack as many different types of bacteria into a capsule as selling points…Elixa’s strength comes from it’s seemingly boring ingredient list:
Lactobacillus Plantarum, Lactobacillus Rhamnosus, Lactobacillus Reuteri, Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Lactobacillus Casei, Lactobacillus Helveticus, Lactobacillus Salivarius, Bifidobacterium Bifidum, Bifidobacterium Lactis, Bifidobacterium Longum, Bifidobacterium Breve
Yet, it’s the Lacto’s and Bifido’s that are the true powerhouses behind any probiotic. Don’t be fooled by the “soil-based” claims or the proprietary blends that do not contain multiple lacto and bifido strains. [See some great Elixa reviews!]
Here’s Karl Seddon’s latest video on Elixa…
Let me know in the comments if you’ve tried Elixa!
Happy guts!

After seeing the ad for Elixa I decided to give it a try. I have had many people tell me I was full of sh*t over my 65 years but nobody had quantified the statement. After just two days I was finally able to state that the answer was about 4 pounds. That’s what I lost sitting on the throne. Overall I recommend this course of probiotics because you aren’t tied down to taking a pill or two a day. Just beware that you may have to stay in the vicinity of a bathroom the first couple of days.

Just ordered up a 4-pack from Elixa a few days ago (before this post went up). Last ordered from them about a year and a half ago when they were still selling the “v2” product. Now they are on “v4.” Hard to say what the differences are (no description on site about v4) but I expect it will turbo charge my guts and cure all of my ills.
It better!

Well, that was a smart move, taking Elixa before vacation. I didn’t do that before traveling to the Philippines, and paid the price. Two awful days, and then one week with an unreliable stomach. I had thought about bringing potato starch, but I opted out, thought I could buy there if needed.
It turns out there is no potato starch to find there, or at least it’s very difficult to find. When we finally heard about one shop selling it, we were already feeling much better, so it wasn’t worth the trip.
Lesson for next time: bring Elixa and prebiotics. I’m confident it would have wiped out the intruders fast.
